Valentine’s Day here, love is starting to fill the air. I don’t know about you guys, but the first thing that comes to mind when I hear romance and love is the amazing Korean Dramas that always seem to be filled with those two things. So, with that said, I’m going to give you guys my list for
Top 10 Romantic Korean Dramas.
My first choice for romantic k-drama is………
GOONG
I do believe this is the only drama on my list I have not actually watched, although that doesn’t stop me from knowing that this is a very romantic drama. A drama with a prince, a peasant, and a difficult love, what’s NOT to love. After all the amazing recommendations and amazing reviews I got for this drama, there’s no way I can’t not watch it.
The second k-drama I chose was……….
YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL
I have to say that there were actually a couple of reasons I started watching this drama 1. it was a gender bender and 2. It incorporated music in the story’s plot. However, I ended up continuing the drama because 1. the amazing chemistry between the actors and actresses and 2. the crazy love lines. I would have said love square, but seriously there are way too many complicated and unrequited feelings throughout the entire drama. Even though that may have been the case, in the end the
Hwang Tae Kyung (Jang Geun Suk) and
Go Mi Nam/Go Mi Nyu (Park Shin Hye) couple rose over all their obstacles.
My third choice for romantic k-drama is……..
SHINING INHERITANCE
This spin off of Cinderella has got to be one of the most dramatic dramas on this list. With 28 episodes in this series, I’m really happy that we were able to see a slow and gradual but apparent growth in the relationship between the two leads,
Go Eun Sung (Han Hyo Joo) and
Sun Woo Hwan (Lee Seung Ki). This is definitely an amazing drama with plot twists and problems between the characters, my favorite being the love square.
The fourth k-drama on my list is ………..
MISCHIEVOUS KISS/
PLAYFUL KISS
So this drama got SO much hype before it premiered but then there was a lot of disappointment as it progressed but I have to say I loved the drama the entire time. I must really be a sucker for any romantic comedy dramas. I do believe that this drama had it’s romantic developments early on but was still able to become more romantically involved as the drama progressed, which is something I believe is very hard to accomplish. On top of the main series, I loved watching the special YouTube episodes as well. Despite the fact that they weren’t full length episodes, I thought that being able to short clips with their short story lines were just as, if not more, fulfilling then the regular episodes. More than anything though, I think I loved the contrasting personalities between the two leads
Baek Seung Jo (Kim Hyun Joong) and
Oh Ha Ni (Jung So Min)
The fifth k-drama on the list is ………..
PERSONAL PREFERENCE
From episode 1 this drama became one of my favorites. It just seemed to be the perfect combo of comedy and romance. I think though the most amazing thing about the drama is the intensity of clumsiness between the two main characters,
Park Kae In (Son Ye Jin) and
Jeon Jin Ho (Lee Min Ho). They were just way to adorable together for each other, more than any words could describe. I found it a bit hilarious though just to see the contrast between the happy main couple, and the couple(some might even consider them not a couple) full of issues,
Han Chung Ryu (Kim Ji Suk) and
Kim In Hee (Wang Ji Hye).
The sixth k-drama of my choice is……….
BOYS OVER FLOWERS
If I were to describe this drama I would have to say, A classic harem drama, a classic story line, but somehow it brings a unique twist into it. First of all I want to start of by saying not only was the main couple of
Geum Jan Di ( Koo Hye Sun) and
Goo Joon Pyo (Lee Min Ho) fun to watch but so was the
Chu Ga Eul (Kim So Eun) and
So Yi Jung (Kim Bum) couple as well as the other supporting characters,
Yoon Ji Ho (Kim Hyun Joon) and
Song Woo Bin (Kim Joon). I point is basically that the entire cast ROCKED! Like every other dramas, there were plot twists, unrequited feelings, and characters with opposite (and in this case VERY opposite) personalities. The thing that made me love the main couple more than anything was the constant quarreling between the two, even though I knew it would keep happening , I would always wait for it to happen. I loved this story when I first read the original Japanese manga, but regardless I still loved this drama as well.
The next k-drama on the list is…………
MY GIRLFRIEND IS A NINE-TAILED FOX
I have to say that in my mind, this drama is the definition of a sweet and innocent love. When I first heard about this drama I debated weather or not I should watch it since I’m not a humongous fan of live fantasy, just cause the effects aren’t all that great. However I had to keep watching because, well the love between the two main characters,
Cha Dae Woong (Lee Seung Gi) and the
Gumiho/Miho (Shin Min Ah), was just so adorable. Another thing I noticed about the drama was the fact that there was alot of unrequited feelings in almost all of the characters at one point or another. So basically, the point is, there was ALOT of love going on during the entire series.
Next on my list is……
THE 1ST SHOP OF COFFEE PRINCE
This gender bender romantic comedy is probably one of the more romantic dramas on this list just because of the fact that the romance starts earlier on in the series. Unlike many of the other listed dramas so far, the feelings and romance between the two leads,
Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) and
Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye), is more of a realistic love instead of the fantasy and dream like love. On top of the main love line, there is also the more complicated relationship between the
Choi Han Sung (Lee Sun Gyun) and
Han Yoo Joo (Chae Jung Ahn) couple who go through so many ups and downs that it was extremely hard for me to even keep up with them.
Next is the historical, gender bender, romantic comedy k-drama……….
SUNGKYUNKWAN SCANDAL
Now this is a drama I’m sure many have heard about at one point or another. What I loved most about this drama was the fact that, just like Coffee Prince, it was a gender bender just because I love the suspension of knowing something the characters don’t. Although the beginning of the drama started off a bit slow in the raomance area due to
Lee Sun Joon (Micky Yoochun) having the most romance drained personality, once he started showing his feelings toward
Kim Yoon Hee (Park Min Young) I couldn’t but help have the widest grin on my face. In my eyes, their cute, shy, and somewhat awkward love line was one impossible to not love. Plus, although I don’t think the releationship between the two supporting characters,
Goo Yong Ha (Song Joong Ki) and
Moon Jae Shin (Yoo Ah In) would be classified as a love line, I would say it’s more of a bromance, I still loved seeing the closeness of the two characters.
And finally, the last choice is……..
SECRET GARDEN!!!!!
Although this drama just recently finished airing I have to say this was one of my favorite romantic dramas so far. Not only was this drama hilarious to watch it also brought the theme of romance into a more intresting and unique way than most dramas. The constant quarling, problems, and overall difference in personalities between the two leads,
Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin) and
Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won), seemed to draw the two characters closer together with each passing episode and thus making me yell and squel out in excitment more and more as the drama progressed. Not to mention the love lines between the supporting characters, the
Oska (Yoon Sang Hyun) and
Yoon Seul (Kim Sa Rang) couple and the
Kim Sung Woo (Kim Sung Oh) and
Im Ah Young (Yoo In Ah) couple, which was among the cutest, most innocent, hilarious, and heartfelt couples I have seen.
It was actually pretty hard chosing my top 10 romantic korean dramas just because there are SO many amazing Korean dramas out there.
